Don’t you hate it when you walk into a bar and see someone wearing the same jacket as you?
It’s even worse when the person wearing it notices it too.
Things get awkward when that same person is well on their way to becoming fall-down drunk, and proceeds to gesticulate wildly across the room so as to draw my attention to the fact we’re wearing the same jacket.
I made the mistake of acknowledging him with a wry smile in the vain hope he’d have another drink and forget all about me.
Wishful thinking.
This, unfortunately, encouraged him further and he stumbled and pushed his way through the crowded bar until he reached me.
With a breath that would have made a recovering alcoholic throw himself off the wagon, he threw an arm around my shoulder and slurred “Hey! We wearin’ the shame closhe!”
Mustering all the good humour I could, I soberly replied “Not quite the same” while pointing to my incredibly fabulous and fashionable shoes.
With his arm still around my shoulders, he peered down for a moment, then looked me in the face.
His bloodshot eyes widened and as he quickly withdrew from his smelly hug, he exclaimed “Fark! You’re a poof!”
I’m positive I would have come up with a smart and sassy reply, but he whirled around, and pushed through a crowd of people while knocking over one of their drinks, and I figured he wasn’t going to have a very good night anyway.
I moved on, met up with my friend, and promptly forgot all about him.
I considered having a rant about some people’s lack of intelligence and outdated bigotry, but at least he gave me some material for a post.
